Well that kills the Greens for me

The father of the modern attempt to censor the internet in Australia has, in a stunning case of hypocrisy, attacked the Labor government for its secrecy over internet filtering. Yep, Clive Hamilton! But there's worse to come! The Greens have made him their candidate for the Higgins by-election!

Fuck 'em, I say. I will no longer touch or trust the Greens as a party if they can take that paternalistic religious fool as a candidate. I hereby take back every recommendation I have made about the Greens. He is the enemy of free speech and indeed of freedom in general. Ergo, so are they.

Sorry Bob Brown, you totally messed up, and the only thing that would redeem you is if you dropped him before the election is held.

Yeah, I saw this a little while ago. It's terrible that the Greens, who have so far been the sane voice in parliament on the whole internet filtering debacle, would choose the person who essentially instigated the whole farce. (I realise they're backing him on his climate change policy, but still, there's no way they can possibly reconcile their position on filtering with Hamilton's antiquated notions.)

Already a preliminary member of the Pirate Party.

The Sex Party could maybe do with a change of name ... but most of its actual policies seem quite sensible. Not all - any policy that requires complex constitutional change is pissing into the wind, however feel-good or well-intentioned it might be. But they'll get my vote next time round.
